New Howard County Genealogist

The Indiana Genealogical Society has chosen Howard County Genealogical Society member Cindy Stover to be our first Howard County Genealogist.  IGS is working to
appoint a County Genealogist in each of Indiana's 92 counties.
The responsibilities of a County Genealogist include:
  • Report monthly on events and news for their county (including issues of records preservation and access)
  • Promote genealogical and historical research and education within the county they represent
  • Be familiar with the genealogical records available for the county
  • Be familiar with any genealogical repositories in the county
  • Be familiar with any historical or genealogical groups within the county
  • Be familiar with IGS and its functions
  • Will provide advice and counsel to those doing genealogical research in the particular county (the Indiana County Genealogist will not be expected to do personal research for those who contact them)
Contact Cindy with questions on where to go next in your family research.  Cindy can be reached at 765-432-5453 or clstovr@aol.com

Horse Thief Detective Association

While doing research in the Kokomo City Directory & Howard County Gazetteer, 1910-1911, I came across an article on the Horse Thief Detective Association.  The article said:  "Howard County Horse Thief Detective Association meets first Monday night of each month in hall over Kokomo Trust Co., west side Square".  The named of this group intrigued me.  If anyone has any information on this group, please contact  me at mford@KHCPL.org.  Thanks, Marcia.
