Genealogy for Night Owls

Genealogy for Night Owls is a relaxed after-hours research evening for adults of any experience level.  Plan to attend our 43rd lock-in event from 5:30 p.m. until midnight on Friday, October 12.  Included in the evening activities are a buffet dinner,
snacks, door prizes and access to all of the genealogy collection and databases.  To register for this event, pay the fee in GLHD beginning September 12.

Howard County Hall of Legends

The Howard County Hall of Legends will induct six new members at its annual recognition banquet on August 24th at 6 p.m. at the Bel Air Event Center.  Those being inducted are Opha May Jacob Johnson, America's first female U.S. Marine; Reba Harris, founder and director of the Gilead House; Don Smith, Sr., banking entrepreneur; Steve Dailey, former mayor of Kokomo; Brian Harlow, Chrysler executive; and the Kokomo Park Band.  Tickets may be purchased online through the historical society's website, www.howardcoutymuseum.org and Eventbrite or at the society's office at 1218 W. Howard County Genealogical Society

The Howard County Genealogical Society will not meet on Monday, August 13, for its usual monthly meeting.  Instead, we encourage everyone to attend the Indiana WWI Centennial Committee Opha May Jacob Johnson Commemoration at noon in Foster Park.  Attendees are requested to bring lawn chairs, as seating is limited.  Ms Johnson was born in Kokomo on May 4, 1878 and became the first female Marine in the United States Marine Corp on August 13, 1918.

IGS Annual Meeting


The Indiana Genealogical Society's 2012 Annual Meeting & Conference will be held Saturday, April 28 at the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne. The featured speaker is Debra S. Mieszala and a second track of sessions will also be offered. Register online at the IGS website at www.indgensoc.org/conference.php or mail in the form provided on the website. The fee is $30 for IGS members or $40 for non-members. Each IGS Annual Meeting & Conference presents an outstanding program. Don't miss it.

28th Genealogy for Night Owls

The 28th Genealogy for Night Owls will be held Friday, April 29 from 5:30 p.m. until 12:00 midnight. This after hours research evening is designed for experienced genealogists. The fee is $12 for Howard County Genealogical Society members and $14 for non-members, and includes a buffet dinner and door prizes. Register in the GLHD by paying your fee for this evening of fun and research. Space is limited, so register now.
